BDSwiss Contributes Towards UN World Food Programme This Ramadan

LinkedIn +

To celebrate the spirit of Ramadan, BDSwiss is delighted to announce its latest donation towards the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This Ramadan, as millions of Muslims globally celebrate the festival, countries like Yemen, South Sudan and Nigeria are staring at starvation. The UN WFP programme is an appeal to support 30 million people with life-saving food and nutrition assistance in these countries.

With many of BDSwiss’ loyal traders also celebrating Ramadan, we took the opportunity to donate $5,000 towards this urgent cause. Our hope is to assist the programme in making a difference to people facing hardships in conflict and disaster-ridden areas around the world, hoping that they might be able to celebrate Eid this year.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is at the core of BDSwiss’ guiding mission. When first setting out our company objectives, we made a commitment to give back to the community and our employees have embraced this as well. We nurture this philanthropic culture through various local and global initiatives to bring about a positive change.

Over the years, we have made multiple contributions towards a wide range of causes. In the past year alone, we donated to the Elpida foundation for children with cancer and leukaemia, provided financial support to the Red Cross during the worst times of the pandemic and even donated towards the relief efforts after the horrifying explosions in Beirut in 2020.
In April 2021, we donated towards a telethon held by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Cyprus Association of Myopathy, which was trying to raise funds to make a difference to the lives of people affected by dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and related neuromuscular diseases through innovations in science and medical care.

About the United Nations World Food Programme

The pandemic has led to huge economic disruptions globally, with some parts of the world suffering immensely due to the lack of medical resources, food and pre-existing political and social upheavals. Yemen, for instance, is currently the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, where 80% of the population, including 12 million children require urgent aid. According to reports, some 2.3 million children under the age of 5 in Yemen will suffer from malnutrition in 2021. Years of armed conflict in such areas combined with the devastation caused by Covid-19 will lead to a huge death toll, if humanitarian organizations like the UN WFP can’t get funding.

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, providing life-saving assistance to millions of people worldwide, reeling under conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Over 20,000 people work in 80 countries to provide hunger relief, good nutrition, improved food systems, and critical assistance to build resilience against climate change. This includes school feeding programmes, women and child nutrition support, reducing losses of small farmers and helping communities prepare for climate-related natural disasters.

In the true spirit of giving that Ramadan is known for, we hope our contribution will go towards the betterment of these lives.
